Late-night tax for alcohol misuse backed by Sussex Police

Government proposals that could force pubs and nightclubs to pay a late-night levy to help cover the cost of keeping order at closing time are being supported by Sussex Police.

Officers said alcohol misuse costs Brighton an estimated £100m each year.

The idea is meeting opposition from some of the city's landlords.
