Eastbourne skeletons reveal ancestors' secrets

Hundreds of skeletons in Eastbourne museum collection are about to reveal their secrets as part of the Eastbourne Ancestors project, funded by a Heritage Lottery grant.

The museum has just been awarded £73,000 and it is hoped the money will help train local people to uncover past secrets for themselves.

Osteo-archaeologist Hayley Forsyth said individuals growing up in an area such as Eastbourne, who drank water from local streams, would have "markers" in their bones which would be picked up through scientific analysis.
