Lewes divided by Phoenix Quarter plans

Plans for the biggest development within the South Downs National Park have divided an East Sussex town.

Developers want to build more than 400 homes, alongside workshops and shops, in the Phoenix Quarter of Lewes.

Opponents, who fear Lewes will become a commuter town forcing local people out, have devised an alternative plan of their own.

The plans are being considered by the South Downs National Park Authority Planning Committee on 10 December.

South East Today's Piers Hopkirk spoke to Chelsea Renton of Lewes Phoenix Rising, Wendy Baker, Principal of The Dance Academy, and musician Arthur Brown.
