Hartlepool chimney demolition raises funds for charity

A landmark structure has disappeared from the Hartlepool skyline.

The Steetley chimney has been flattened as part of work to clear the former chemical works site.

Raffle tickets offering the chance to blow up the 230ft (70m) tall structure raised £6,000 which will be shared between two local charities.

Dave Fricker, 47, from Hartlepool, and his grandson Jamie Browne, eight, won the competition to push the plunger to blow up the chimney.
