Longer life for Hartlepool nuclear power station
Hartlepool's nuclear power station - due to be closed in 2019 - will now stay open until 2024.
Its French owner, EDF Energy, said the extension to its life is being made because the plant remains safe and economically viable.
Confirmation of the extension came on the same day that the plant reopened its visitor centre, closed as a security precaution in the aftermath of the attacks on the World Trade Centre, in New York
