Sportkids: Overcoming illness for sport

A boy from North Tyneside has overcome a rare, debilitating condition to play the sport he loves.

Luke Haughey, 11, was diagnosed with Perthes' disease when he was a toddler.

The condition causes deformity of the hip joint in children, and Luke's family feared he would never be able to fulfil his dream of becoming a professional rugby league player.

He received five years of intensive physiotherapy and has made a full recovery.

He now plays with Whitley Bay Barbarians Rugby League Club.
