US bone marrow boy Ryan Compton visits Durham Police

A US schoolboy whose life was saved by a bone marrow transplant has spent the day with Durham Police to see what life is like as a British policeman.

Eight-year-old Ryan Compton, from Los Angeles, was on chemotherapy for three-and-a-half years before he received a bone marrow transplant from donor Barry Crackett.

Mr Crackett, from Widdrington Station, Northumberland, visited Ryan's family earlier in the year and returned the favour by inviting them to the UK.

Ryan, who is said to be making a "remarkable" recovery from blood cancer, said he wants to be a policeman when he is older.
