County Durham veteran misses D-Day's 70th anniversary
A man from County Durham has missed marking the 70th anniversary of the D-Day landings because of an error on his passport.
Hundreds of the last surviving D-Day veterans have gathered on both sides of the English Channel to mark 70 years on from the momentous World War Two mission.
But 91-year-old Jim Peaks, from Sherburn, missed out after a spelling mistake on his passport renewal form meant he did not get it in time to travel.
He said he wanted to go to see anybody that he knew and say, "hello mate, how are you?".
