Newcastle City Council to charge disabled drivers for parking

Blue badge holders are to be charged to park in council car parks in Newcastle, the local authority has announced.

Bosses said the move will bring in about £140,000 which it will "re-invest" in facilities for disabled drivers.

People opposed to the scheme, which is set to be introduced in April, have called it a "tax of disabled people".
