'One punch' victim Kristian Thompson's mother starts campaign

The mother of a teenager who died after sustaining a single punch outside a County Durham night club has launched a campaign to protect others.

Maxine Thompson said she hopes the death of 19-year-old Kristian in 2010 will serve as a warning to others about the dangers of throwing a punch.

Kristian died 10 months after suffering serious brain injuries he suffered outside a club in Consett with his attacker jailed for 28 months.

An inquest concluded that his death could not categorically be linked to the punch, but Mrs Thompson is appealing against that ruling.

Durham Police have given their backing to Ms Thompson's One Punch campaign.
