Omagh bomb: Attack 'preventable', says victim's father

The 1998 Omagh bomb attack was "preventable", the father of one of its victims has said.

Michael Gallagher, whose son Aidan was killed in the bombing, told the Today programme that he would continue to call for a public inquiry into the atrocity.

But Historian Ruth Dudley Edwards said that neither the British nor the Irish government would "contemplate" such an inquiry.

The Real IRA attack was the worst single atrocity of the Troubles in Northern Ireland.

Seamus Daly, from Culloville, County Monaghan, has been charged with the murders of 29 people relating to the bombing.

First broadcast on BBC Radio 4's Today programme on Friday 11 April.
