JTI Gallaher: The firm's history in Northern Ireland

Gallahers began making cigarettes in Northern Ireland in the latter part of the 1800s and grew into the largest independent purchaser of heavy tobacco in the world.

The company was founded by Thomas Gallaher, after he started his own one-man business selling hand-rolled tobacco from a push cart.
