Blind patient tells human rights inquiry he was left alone in hospital for hours

A blind man has told an inquiry that his human rights were violated when hospital staff left him alone in a room for two hours, unable to find his way to the toilet.

Sam Kilpatrick complained to the Northern Ireland Human Rights Commission (NIHRC) about the treatment he received at Lagan Valley Hospital in Lisburn, County Antrim, in 2013.

The NIHRC inquiry into emergency health care provision in Northern Ireland has identified individual cases of inhuman and degrading treatment but no evidence of "systemic violations of human rights".
