Former NOTW reporter says Coulson 'restrained' staff

Paul McMullan, who is a former deputy features editor at the News of the World, has said that then editor Andy Coulson "restrained staff" in their investigations.

He said that when Mr Coulson arrived as editor the investigations department was a "den of vipers".

MPs are to hold an emergency debate to discuss the allegations of phone hacking by journalists at the News of the World.

Mr Coulson told MPs last year that he never "used or condoned" the practice and No 10 has said he "totally and utterly" rejects the latest allegations surrounding his time as editor.
