Chancellor confirms 'agreement' on benefits overhaul

The Chancellor George Osborne has confirmed that agreement has been reached for a major overhaul of the benefits system.

It is understood that individual payments for different benefits will be replaced by a new universal credit.

One aim is to ensure that anyone in work will be better off than someone on the dole, but critics say it risks making some of the most vulnerable in society worse off.
