Chancellor George Osborne has unveiled the biggest UK spending cuts since World War II, with welfare, councils and police budgets all hit.

There was intense media speculation in the run up to the enouncement of his Spending Review in the House of Commons.

His decisions about where the axe would fall on public spending, immediately provoked strong reactions from the opposition and the public at large - both favourable and negative.
