Online petitions 'could shape laws'

Voters could soon get the chance to shape the laws which go before Parliament.

The coalition government wants to give the most popular petitions posted on an official website the opportunity to be debated by MPs or even become Private Members' Bills.

The idea is meant to get people more closely involved in the political process.
