Votes referendum: PM David Cameron's speech in full
David Cameron sets out his views in support of the existing first-past-the-post system, as campaigning ahead of the 5 May referendum on electoral reform gets going in earnest.
The prime minister believes that the current system for electing MPs provides decisive results and accountability.
Earlier Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg launched his push for change, saying that the Alternative Vote system was fairer and that MPs would be forced to work harder to earn and keep their seats.
The government pledged to hold a vote on the issue in its coalition deal.
