Clegg on by-election defeat: 'No contest'

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg has responded to his parties by-election defeat in Barnsley saying it was "an abysmally low turnout" and "no contest for any non-Labour candidate."

The Liberal Democrats dropped to sixth place in the Barnsley Central by-election - after coming second in last year's general election.

Labour won the seat with their candidate Dan Jarvis taking 61 per cent of the vote.

The election was caused by the resignation of the former Labour MP, Eric Illsley who who was jailed in February for expenses fraud.
