Police pay changes 'ensure jobs' - Theresa May

Changing police pay and conditions will help to keep officers' jobs and cut crime according to Home Secretary Theresa May.

An independent review of police pay and conditions in England and Wales has called for the abolition of a series of allowances and special payments.

Officers on front-line duties could see their pay rise but 40% face wage cuts of up to £4,000 a year.

Ms May told the BBC that "police officers should be rewarded fairly and reasonably for the work that they do".
