The Archbishop of Canterbury criticises government policies

The Archbishop of Canterbury, Dr Rowan Williams, has criticised the government, accusing it of "forcing through radical policies for which no-one voted".

Writing in the left wing magazine the New Statesman, Dr Williams said key coalition policies had created bafflement and fear amongst the public which needed to be addressed.

Political debate on both the left and the right was "pretty stuck", he said.

Downing Street has rebuffed the criticism saying the government had been elected to tackle "deep-rooted problems".
