Danny Alexander: "Many of the unions will be disappointed"

The Chief Secretary to the Treasury, Danny Alexander, has said that "many of the unions will be disappointed" with the turnout for Thursday's strike over public sector pensions.

The government has said that around 100,000 civil servants joined the walkout organised by the Public and Commercial Services Union.

But the PCS said it was their most successful strike ever, and that 200,000 of its members supported the action.
