Online petitions could be debated in Parliament

Petitions which gather more than 100,000 signatures could be debated in Parliament, following changes to the e-petitions pages on the Downing Street website.

Jon Morter, who was involved in the online campaign to keep 2009's X Factor winner off the Christmas number one spot, said it was " a good thing" and could "give Parliament a kick up the backside".
