Alistair Darling: Brown had 'permanent air of crisis'

Former Labour chancellor Alistair Darling has said there was a "permanent air of chaos and crisis" when Gordon Brown was prime minister.

Mr Darling's memoirs, which are being serialised in the Sunday Times, accuse the former prime minister of "sometimes appalling behaviour" during the banking crisis.

Mr Darling also says in the book that Tony Blair likened working with his then-chancellor to "having dental treatment with no anaesthetic".
