50p tax tate: Economist Michael Ben-Gad calls for rethink

Professor Michael Ben-Gad of City University claimed the 50p tax rate in the UK was counter productive, raised no extra revenue and "punishes people".

He was one of 20 economists who wrote to the Financial Times calling on the Chancellor to scrap the top tax rate, which was introduced by Labour and the Conservatives had pledged to abolish.
