French elections: Choosing socialist candidates in primaries

French socialists have been choosing a candidate for next year's presidential election where anyone can take part in the primary if they share the "values of the left".

Max Cotton examined whether this could increase interest in UK politics, where election turn-outs are generally falling, the halls at the party conferences had many empty seats and major parties are losing members.
