Portillo expects EU treaty changes and referendum

Michael Portillo said it was "unthinkable" there would not be a referendum for British people on Europe amid talks of a new EU treaty.

He said most Tory ministers shared the views of their eurosceptic backbenchers who see the eurozone crisis as a chance to bring back powers from Brussels to Westminster.

He debated the issue with Andrew Neil, Labour MP Alan Johnson and former Lib Dem spokesman Miranda Green.
