Council of Mortgage Lenders on government housing plan
The director general of the Council of Mortgage Lenders said builders will have more confidence to invest with the government's mortgage indemnity scheme, which aims to help more people get mortgages.
Paul Smee said mortgages would only be given to people who could afford them, but people with 95% mortgages were handling them well.
He said the new plan meant it was likely there would be more money available to lend.
