Government defends plans to charge parents who use CSA

Campaigners have said the Government's plans to make mothers pay to chase runaway fathers are unfair and children will suffer.

They are asking ministers to re-consider their plans for the Child Support Agency after a Tory led rebellion inflicted a crushing defeat over the proposals in the House of Lords.

The plans are part of the controversial Welfare Reform Bill which is due to be debated by MPs on Wednesday.

Work and Pensions Minister Maria Miller said the Government was completely committed to supporting lone parents.
