Lord Bach on legal aid changes in government bill

The shadow justice minister claimed government changes to legal aid would attack the housing, employment and benefits of "very poor, very vulnerable and often disabled people".

Lord Bach said the previous Labour government had started cutting back on legal aid, but said it was "absolutely outrageous" for those affected to lose access to justice.

The government's Legal Aid Bill would stop civil legal aid for people making claims in relation to benefits, personal injury and immigration.
