Budget ideas from blogger Tim Montgomerie to chancellor

A Conservative blogger called on the chancellor to think bigger, as he offered his advice to George Osborne ahead of next Wednesday's Budget.

Tim Montgomerie, editor of the ConservativeHome website, said the UK should be looking for lessons from China and its growing economy.

His list included a new airport in south eastern England, changing employment laws, paying science teachers more, privatising roads and linking the retirement age to life expectancy, although pollsters and spin doctors had warned his list was "impossible".

He then debated his ideas in the studio with MPs Mark Harper and Sadiq Khan.
