Peter Bone on gay marriage: An apple is not a pear
Conservative MP Peter Bone has said that arguing in favour of gay marriage "is rather like saying an apple is a pear".
In a Newsnight debate chaired by Jeremy Paxman, Tony Drewitt-Barlow asked Mr Bone why he could not marry his civil partner, Barrie.
It comes as a 12-week consultation on proposed changes in the law, which would allow gay couples in England and Wales to marry, is launched by the government.
Among others participating in the debate were former Canon Chancellor of St. Paul's Giles Fraser, Bishop of Willesdon Peter Broadbent and Home Office Minister Nick Herbert.
