Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg 'sad' about election losses

The Liberal Democrat leader Nick Clegg has admitted it has been a "difficult night" as both his party and the Conservatives suffered heavy losses in the local elections in England and Wales.

Labour is set to add more than 700 seats and has taken control of councils including Birmingham and Cardiff.

Nick Clegg said he was ''sad'' about the defeat endured by some party colleagues.
