Prisoner votes: European Court rule is haphazard, says MP

The European Court of Human Rights has ruled that it is up to individual governments to decide how to implement a ban on convicted prisoners voting in elections.

The ruling was in response to a case brought by an Italian man jailed for murder who demanded the right to vote in Italy.

The UK government and the majority of MPs have been opposed to giving prisoners the right to vote, including Dominic Raab MP who called the judgement by the court 'haphazard'.
