Increase in road deaths is 'very disturbing'

The chair of the Transport Select Committee has said the first increase in road deaths for a decade is "very disturbing".

Louise Ellman MP insisted the government should make it a priority to address road safety, and called on local authorities to do more to improve awareness.

Ms Ellman added that improvements should be made to the training of young drivers, including changing their attitudes to driving.

The report highlighted the fact that road accidents are the main killer among 16-to-24-year-olds.
