Heathrow row restarted by transport appointment

The appointment of Patrick McLoughlin as transport secretary has re-opened the row over the possible expansion of Heathrow Airport.

Justine Greening, who Mr McLoughlin replaces, campaigned against a third runway before becoming a minister, living on the flight path.

The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, said the reshuffle shows the government wants to "ditch its promises and send yet more planes over central London".

On Tuesday, the government insisted its policy hadn't changed.

Mr McLoughlin has said he has "an open mind" on the issue, as Hugh Pym reports.
