Votes for 16 and 17-year-olds: Lord Adonis on bill

A group of crossbench peers want the government to give the vote to 16 and 17-year-olds in a private member's bill being debated on Monday.

Lord Adonis said there was "added urgency" with the decision to allow younger people in Scotland to vote in the 2014 referendum on the future of the nation.

The Labour peer said there was "every reason" to use the same age for parliamentary and local elections across the UK with polling stations in schools and colleges.
