Political parties have used and tweaked red roses, flaming torches, animals and sketchily-drawn trees to establish their brands in the mind of the electorate.

But some in the advertising world view the branding of UK politics as "desperately out of date". David Thompson reviewed the marketing used today and in years gone by.
