Fracking and shale gas: Dan Lewis and Caroline Lucas

Britain needs to buy more gas "and a lot of it" as renewable and nuclear power sources were not meeting demand, said Institute of Directors energy adviser Dan Lewis.

He said the UK could cut the amount of fuel it imported and create jobs and get more tax at home as he called for more shale gas - or fracking.

But Green Party MP Caroline Lucas said fracking could lead to higher energy bills and leave climate emission reduction targets "completely busted", and she claimed off-shore wind power could create 70,000 more jobs and save £20bn.
