Tim Montgomerie on Adam Afriyie Tory leadership stories

Conservative MP Adam Afriyie was named in the weekend press as a potential Tory leader should their party fail to get a majority at the next general election.

ConservativeHome editor Tim Montgomerie said there were "40 or 50 or irreconcilable MPs" who did not like the prime minister.

But he reckoned the party was now united on Europe after David Cameron's speech last week, and "things were going better for him than they have been for some time".

Mr Afriyie told Sky News that he had "choked on his cereal" after reading the reports, and said he would never stand against Mr Cameron.
