Mid Staffs scandal: NHS Chief Executive grilled by MPs
The Chief Executive of the NHS in England, Sir David Nicholson, has been grilled by a committee of MPs over his role in the face of criticism over the scandal at the Mid Staffordshire NHS Trust.
Sir David was in charge of the regional health authority for part of the period when patients were being mistreated.
He told the Health Select Committee that at the time of the scandal, patients were not at the centre of the NHS.
Committee member Valerie Vaz asked about his handling of the case, and how often he visited the hospital at the centre of the scandal.
