Osborne: 'Currency alternatives less suitable for Scotland'
Chancellor George Osborne has argued that there would be an unbalanced relationship if Scotland became independent from the rest of the UK.
The case for an independent Scotland retaining the pound in a currency pact with the rest of the UK is "not clear", according to a Treasury analysis.
Mr Osborne said during a speech in Glasgow that all the alternative currency arrangements "are less suitable economically than what we have now for Scotland, and the rest of the UK".
The Scottish government said a currency pact would be in everyone's interests.
Voters in Scotland will be given the choice of opting for independence in a referendum in September 2014
