Salvaging a German bomber

A German bomber, shot down by British fighters over the Kent coasted in 1940 is to be salvaged and restored at the RAF Museum, Cosford.

The plane was rediscovered on Goodwin Sands in 2011 and is the only surviving example of a Dornier 17 bomber.

The salvage operation will require a bespoke lifting frame to be constructed under the plane as it lies on the seabed.
