Foreign Secretary William Hague defends GCHQ methods
Foreign Secretary William Hague has said that intelligence gathered in partnership with US spy agencies is subject to the same controls as if it was gathered in the UK.
He was speaking in response to allegations that GCHQ may have been using a US surveillance programme to gather intelligence on British citizens.
Earlier David Cameron insisted that GCHQ and the other spy agencies operated within the law and provided a vital role in keeping the UK safe.
Speaking in the House of Commons, Mr Hague said information obtained via the US agencies was subject to the usual rigours.
