Lobbying Bill: Unlock Democracy and Tom Brake MP

The Lobbying Bill will make "transparency and lobbying worse in the UK" as it would "capture so little lobbying activity", said Alexandra Runswick of the pressure group Unlock Democracy.

She reckoned "very little lobbying activity" involved meeting government ministers and senior civil servants.

But Deputy Leader of the House Tom Brake said there were "clear misunderstandings" about the bill and it would not affect charities, as he told Jo Coburn about the changes the bill would bring in.

David Cameron said lobbying would be the next big scandal to hit British politics, ahead of a succession of politicians allegedly caught selling their services to lobbyists.

A bill which aims to regulate the business is being debated by MPs on Tuesday.
