'Marriage is special' - Jeremy Hunt defends tax break plan

Plans for some married couples to get tax breaks worth up to £200 a year have been announced by David Cameron.

The prime minister said four million couples would benefit from a £1,000 transferable tax allowance from 2015.

Speaking to BBC Breakfast's Charlie Stayt, Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt it was a recognition that marriage was special.

He said the measure would help lower-earning couples and should send a signal that marriage was valued.

Mr Hunt defended the prime minister's plans, saying that marriage was an "institution".
