PM David Cameron: 'We must save for rainy days'

Prime Minister David Cameron has denied that plans to run a budget surplus if the Conservatives remain in power after the next election will lead to further spending cuts.

Mr Cameron said: "It does matter, in the good years, that you start putting some money aside for potentially rainy days that might lie a long way ahead."

Speaking to the BBC's Nick Robinson at his party conference in Manchester, the prime minister also defended the Help to Buy scheme and questioned the wisdom of Labour's pledge to freeze energy prices.
