Danny Alexander: Infrastructure investment 'long term'
The government plans to invest a third of a trillion pounds in infrastructure over the next 20 years, using both private investment and taxpayer funds.
Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander told the Today programme's Sarah Montague that the government is aiming to focus this investment on "long-term infrastructure".
He said that this would enable "a big wave of investment in offshore renewables", as well as the building of a new nuclear power station at Wylfa.
Mr Alexander added: "Six of Britain's major insurance companies, as part of their own growth plan, are committing £25 billion to invest in British infrastructure over the next five years".
