Universal Credit may not be ready by 2017 as planned

The Work and Pensions Secretary has admitted that the government's flagship benefits programme may not be completed on time.

Iain Duncan Smith had hoped to implement the Universal Credit scheme by the end of 2017.

Now he has told the BBC that transferring some people who receive Employment Support Allowance on to the new benefit may take "a little longer" than originally planned.
