Iain Duncan Smith defends universal credit

More than £40.1m has been written off on software and computing costs during the government's overhaul of benefits.

Work and Pensions Secretary Iain Duncan Smith was questioned by MPs on Monday because of concerns over the universal credit system.

Mr Duncan Smith defended the welfare policy and described the benefit scheme as an "asset".
